Introduction (MYFAROG 1E)

Video info
DescriptionThis is a (long) video explaining a few things about MYFAROG. I put it in the tutorials category, although this first part is more like a flip-through and a general introduction. In the next video I will talk about character generation, to help those new to the hobby (and I guess also those just new to this particular game) create their characters for MYFAROG.

I make this introduction mainly to enable you guys to see what this game is all about, and to give you a good impression of the actual contents. I don't want to sell this game book to people who might not have an interest in it, or who might prefer other games, and I hope this video (and the other upcoming tutorials) will enable you guys to know whether or not this might be the game for you.

MYFAROG is a self-published indie game printed in batches of 100 copies only (it is actually not that much more expensive to print 100 copies than it is to print e. g. 250 copies). This is all I can afford to print at the time right now, and because of the narrow scope of the genre, I am not expecting to sell this book by the 'thousands' anyhow. I number each copy (e. g. #5/100) and I sign every copy, and I sell each book for 50 EUROs (and you get the poster map for free).

I have worked 8 years (and innumerable hours) with this game, with great joy and love for the hobby (my wife has often accused me of intentionally not finishing the game, because I enjoyed making it so much...), and to me this is the best RPG ever, but others are not like me, so I don't expect everybody else to think the same about this game. We all have different preferences. If you watch this video and like the idea of playing role-playing games, but think that MYFAROG might not be your 'cup of tea', then I can recommend RuneQuest (http://www.amazon.com/RuneQuest-RPG-Edition-Pete-Nash/dp/0987725904/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1414648213&sr=8-2&keywords=RuneQuest) as an excellent alternative, as well as The One Ring (for those who might prefer a more rules light game). See my review of The One Ring here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RRP5hT0nXyA

Some facts about MYFAROG:
- 264 pages
- 1,4 kg (so it is under 2 kg and I can send the book as a letter, reducing shipping costs dramatically)
- Printed in France (the map too is printed here in France).
- You have everything you need to play the game indefinitely in this one book. No further purchases needed! Ever. (Well, you also need at least 3 six-sided dice and scraps of paper to play the game. And you probably need to print out the character sheets from www.myfarog.org or xerox them from the book itself)
- You can find the most commonly used (colour-coded) tables on a PDF on www.myfarog.org, to make your own myth master's screen at minimum cost. (Just print the PDF out and fasten the sheets to a piece of cardboard...)
- The book will cost 50 EUROs + shipping.
- Any updates, possible changes and an errata will be available from www.myfarog.org. If I should make a new version of MYFAROG, I will make sure to include all of the changes as a PDF on the website, so that those who have an older version of the game can just download and get the updates and changes for free. I don't plan any changes or updates, but in any case; IF there should ever be any changes. My plan is to make sure you only need to buy this book once! (And therefore the book is hard-cover and is printed on 135 gram [strong] paper as well.)

About me:
- I started playing role-playing games in 1984, and I started with MERP (Middle-earth Role-Playing), a game that is no longer being made (the company making it, ICE, lost their licence when the LotR films were planned). Throughout my teens I spent pretty much all my money on role-playing games, and thus became familiar with almost all the other games out at the time -- and some board games as well (ASL was my favourite board game). Naturally I have experience with computer games in the genre too, and my favourite is definitely the now rather old 'Morrowind', but I prefer tabletop RPGs for sure. They provide the players and myth master alike with so much more freedom and opportunities -- and perhaps most importantly; they can be played without the use of electricity or high tech machinery... when SHTF that might turn out to be a huge advantage. ;-)
