The character has successfully hidden himself in the undergrowth of the forest and a roe deer approaches. A roe deer is a medium game in this game and he decides to shoot his arrow at it. He is using a composite bow and the roe deer is 60 feet away. So I check the stats for the composite bow and it states that the base range is 50 feet. Meaning that if you fire at 60 feet it's not short range, you have to shoot on a medium range. Which gives you a minus 2 to your offensive value. I first of all check the missile defence value for a medium game, it's 13. Normally it would have been given a plus 5 dodging bonus, but the roe deer is surprised, so he doesn't know who he's being shot at. So his defensive value is only 13. Then I check the character's skills, he has a missile skill, so he can add his experience level as a bonus to his attack. He also is very dexterous and has a plus 3 dexterity, so his total attack value is plus 7, minus 2 because of the range, so it's plus 5. And he throws his dice to see if he can hit. 5 plus 10 is 15 which beats the target number by 2. Meaning that the damage inflicted upon the roe deer is the same as his weapon damage. Which is a d6 and he is a strong character, so the bow is very strong and he gains a plus 2 damage to the die. He throws a 6, plus 2 is 8, and a medium game, he can only take 6 hit points before he dies, so he shoots his bow and kills the roe deer.^[1]

1. Now he only has to worry about animal rights groups, his hunting licence and whether or not he is allowed to hunt with a bow in the country he is in. It sure was easier before.
