What happened to the German POWs? [prisoner of war] "At the end of World War Il, the U.S. opened camps of its own, where perhaps a million German prisoners died in secret." "Millions of surrendered Germans were held under conditions the U.S. Attorney General compared to Andersonville, the notorious Civil War Confederate POW camp whose commandant was hung for war crimes." But what about the German POWs in the Soviet Union? The Pittsburgh Press, Page 19, Friday, January 2, 1953. "1 ΒΌ Million German POWs Vanish in Russia. 2,800,000 Died in Camps in 5 Years. 700,000 Still Believed in Slavery" Of the 3,480,000 German POWs in the Soviet Union, only 20,000 survived, and were sent back to Germany, the last of them in 1955. Thank you for watching.
