So, with all this talk about blood, from whom do I hail? Let's find out. My genealogy tells me that on my father's side I descend from craftsmen and peasants. On his father's side, from Eastern Norway, the extreme east of Norway, and Sweden. On his mother's side, they descend from Sångn og fjordane, and they were also peasants and fishermen and restaurant owners. The most northernly forbear I have from my father's side would be from Nannestad, which is in Eastern Norway, northern Eastern Norway.[1] The last names on my father's father's side are classic Scandinavian names, like Arneson(?), a Swedish name, Gulliksen(?), and (?), and Hofsund(?).[2] Hofsund, by the way, is named after a sun with a hof, which would be a pagan temple.[3] On my father's mother's side we have classical Scandinavian names, like Ingebritsen(?) and Nurein(?), and so forth. There's nothing really special about my father's line, except the master plumber who was hired or brought over from Cheberg(?) to Bergen[4] to build the central heating system of Haukeland sykehus, that would be the hospital in Bergen. Other than that, they are all peasants, craftsmen, and peasant daughters, craftsmen daughters, and so forth. So it's not very special in that context.[5] My mother's side is actually more interesting, because I don't have the papers here, but I remember it anyway, so I don't need them. Her mother's side is a line of sheriffs(?), and also clergy, and they descend... the furthest back in time they lived in Tønsberg(?) in eastern Norway, and then they have moved over Telemark and into western Norway, Rogaland. They were all sheriffs, or sheriff's daughters, or priests, or priest's daughters. And the most notable character there would be Susanne Malene Qisling from Telemark. And that is of course the same family that Vidkun Qisling came from. I don't descend in direct line from him, but we both descend from the same Qisling family.[6] And Qisling is a Latinized Danish name. It's probably originally Quislemark(?) in Denmark. So most likely these were clergy brought from Denmark to Norway to help Christianize the Norwegians, which failed miserably by the way. So on my mother's mother's side,(?) and clergy. My mother's father's side is a long line of peasants from Bore in Rogaland, in the extreme south west of Norway. They owned a big farm, and it's actually so big you can find it. You can find the name on the map, Bore, or Vestre Bore.[7] So it's not very interesting, although it's kind of interesting, because Bore is actually the name of Odin's grandfather, and the area is one of the first inhabited areas of Norway, because that's where the ice retracted first.[8] And they've lived there for ages. But my mother's father moved away from that, from the area, because he wasn't the oldest son(?), and he was a baker.[9] So all in all I descend from three countries. A little bit from Sweden, a little bit from Denmark, and almost all of it from Norway. All my forebears were craftsmen, peasants, or sheriffs, or clergy.[10] I can trace my line about 400 years back in time, and beyond that, I don't know. I would assume that, just like in the line of other Norwegians, there are also forebears from other peoples, like Ireland, Scotland, Germany, Ukraine, and so forth. Because, as you all know, our forebears took wives from other European tribes. My wife descends from a line of French nobles on both sides, and her name comes from the name Caché de Montesan(?), which is, one of her forebears was a count, and he was given a land by the king for some special deed. Caché, which means a stamp, de Montesan(?). So it was given to him by the king. And the most notable character in her family would be a noble who was executed during the French Revolution for fighting against the revolution.[11] I would assume that, because my wife's line is made up of nobility, that she descends mainly from Franks,[12] but I would assume that she also descends from the Gauls. Both Nordic peoples, by the way. Thank you for watching.
  1. Actually, that is the northernmost forebear I have period. I have no
forebears from Central or Northern Norway.
  2. Swedish farmer, from Gilbärja Sogn.
  3. Sund = English: Strait (a naturally formed, narrow, typically navigable
waterway that connects two larger bodies of water).
  4. That would be my great grand father.
  5. And fishermen and restaurant owners.
  6. Written either Quisling, Qisling or Kvisling.
  7. There is actually no Bore, only Vestre (Western) and Østre (Eastern) Bore.
  8. Norwegian Bore from Norse Búri.
  9. To Bergen.
  10. Well. Farmers, not "peasants".
  11. Like other nobles in France, they changed their name after the "French"
revolution, to hide the fact that they were nobles.
  12. I can add that there is not insanity or physical defects in my family.
