Interview with my Gen Z son (Part II)
- Okay, so you can use AI to reduce your need for money. To do the things that you otherwise would have needed a professional to do. And you can learn whatever you want. So AI basically is a good thing.
- Yes
- Although it completely destroys your job opportunities.
- Yes.
- We see people who "oh, only boomers use AI". Do you think this is correct?
- No, I don't think so. I think boomers actually don't use a lot of AI.
- I agree. And the people who whine about AI, why are they whining about it?
- Well, because they do understand that it can be a problem if you're not using it correctly because that's...
- What about the "the use of AI makes people dumber"? What do you think about that?
- Yeah. If, if you only use it to do the job for you, then you might become dumber. However, if you use it to learn how to do things, then you can become more intelligent.
- Yeah, exactly. Speaking about education, what languages do you speak? Clearly you speak English.
- Yes, I do.
- Intelligent blue eyes.
- So I speak English, French and Norwegian fluently. Then I'm also learning Chinese and relatively advanced in that.
- More than your sister? - Yes. but not very much more, though I also do speak a bit of Latin... well, "speak".
- And we also spent some time learning Norse.
- Yes.
- But when we ran out of book and we kind of stopped.
- Yes.
- But we could use AI for that too.
- Yes, we could.
- How do you learn these languages? I mean, you don't use AI for that, right?
- Not really, no. So for Chinese we use Duolingo.
- Yeah. And it works.
- Yes. That works. And we have also used a bit of Assimil
- That's how your mother learned Norwegian, by the way in six months
- Yes. And when I learned latin, it was mostly Assimil, but it was also...
- Terrible name. Assimil. I'm sorry.[1]
- It was a bit Assimil, but when I learned Latin, that was also AI. But the main reason I had to learn Latin was because I took that for my exams. Instead of taking some kind of other thing I just thought that you can take Latin. And that way I can learn Latin.
- So you have an exam?
- Yes, I had an exam.
- What's that? A high school exam?
- Yeah... wouldn't really know what it corresponds to.
- And you finished that when you were 17, right?
- Yes.
- That contradicts my AI song about homeschooling where it says you're three years advanced. He was only one year advanced.
- Yes.
- That's terrible.
- Other than that, I'm like also interested in tanks, firearms and that kind of stuff.
- What's your favourite firearm? The coolest rifle ever.
- I think it's the FG 42.
- Correct answer.
- And the tanks?
- In terms of tanks, I would say either the StuG III or the Panther.
- StuG III G.
- Yes. StuG III G
- And you play War Thunder.
- Yes. A little.
- Not a lot.
- No.
- Not like your brother.
- And what other computer games, do you play?
- Mostly, I play (?)
- But isn't that a bit too easy?
- Yes, it is.
- I've seen you play on "realistic" and then you just butcher 200 guys in one battle.
- Yeah. It's too easy.
- But it's fun.
- Yes, it is.
- And it has RPG elements.
- Yes.
- Nothing else?
- Not really.
- And you don't play a lot.
- No
- You have periods when you don't play at all, right?
- Yes, but I have played other games. We have played a little bit of Combat Mission a long time ago
- And it takes forever to set up a game.
- Yeah, that's the main problem.
- It takes like an hour just to set up a game. You have passed the exams and you know languages, how do you feel in relation to homeschooling? Do you regret not having been able to go to school?
- No, not at all. I think homeschooling was perfect.
- What do you think about... when you took the exams, you did it in a high school. What was your impression of high school?
- Horrible, mostly.
- Why?
- It seems very chaotic.
- You remember all the boys had the same haircut, remember that?
- Yes, literally all the boys had the exact same haircut
- And all the girls walked around with a handbag and their cell phone like this.
- Yes. It's really like fashion seems incredibly important with these people and they're just all doing the exact same thing. There is nothing special about any of them, and they are exactly the same.
- They're following the herd.
- Yes.
- What about fashion? Do you care about fashion?
- No, not at all. I think most fashion looks completely stupid.
- And then they do the opposite the next year so that you have to buy something new. Like these stupid slim trousers that show the ankle. Everyone look gay. And then the next fashion is the opposite, like really wide pants. So you have to buy a new pair of pants if you want to be fashionable.
- And both are extremes, can't you just catch something in the middle that looks relatively normal.
- No, no, they don't make money from that, you know.
- Yes,
- But fashion has always looked ridiculous. If you take the 15th century, have you looked at how the guys looked at that time?
- It was even worse then now.
- It was even worse. So fashion has always been ridiculous, really. But don't you feel like a need "to belong", which is of course the reason why fashion is there,[2]people want "to belong somewhere" and they are afraid to stand alone and they want to look like everybody else. You don't care about that at all?
- No, not really. - You have a driver's license and you have had a driver's license since you were 17.
- Yes.
- What's your dream car? If you could pick from the top shelf, don't care about what it costs. What would you want?
- I think a Toyota Hilux. The second generation, the one from 1987. And then a Peugeot 205. Those are like my two dream cars. There are more expensive cars that I like, like Dodge RAM TRX that I think that one looks really good.
- But you know, it's not very practical.
- Yes. And Ford Mustang from the 1970s. Both these cars, look cool and I would kind of like to have them, but I would not spend that amount of money on such a car at all because it is just not worth it.
- No.
- So you don't want a Lada?
- No.
- Your sister has all sorts of pen pals. What about you? Do you have an interest in having friends?
- Not really.
- Why not?
- I don't really want to be friends with these guys that have the exact same haircut, all of them.
- You don't want any "normie" friends?
- Yeah it's like they are all the same and they all have interest in the same, which is most of the time football and that kind of stuff. I am not really interested in having friends and talking with that kind of people that are only interested in that.
- But you had some pen pals, didn't you?
- No.
- What about the guys in Belgium?
- Oh, yeah. We wrote some letters with some guys in Belgium, but that was kind of a long time ago.
- Okay. So you're not really interested in having friends? - No - But might this change?
- Yes. I might be interested in having friends that are not like the other guys
- Normies?
- Yes
- Homeschool friends.
- Yeah for example, but also that kind of share the same interest as me.
-(?), War Thunder, I think you'll find a lot of people interested in (?) and War Thunder and Arma.
- Yeah.
- But you do you don't worry about this?
- No, not really, I'm fine without...
- What about "social interaction"? All these people who say "oh, homeschool children don't have social interaction". Do you have any social interaction?
- Yes, we do have. I would say we have more social interaction with other people than the people who are at school because we might not have that much social interaction with like children of our age, but we do have a lot more like real life social interaction where we go to...
- The garage, the grocery store, mail man(?) - The natural conversation that we would have in real life.
- Yeah. Because if you go to school, you always have social interaction with people your own age.
- Yes, - That's it.
- Yes. - So your maturity level will just stay the same[3]for a very long time before you finally interact with the real world and you relate to some people who are actually adults.
- Yes.

  1. "Assimilate"? Fuck you.
  2. It is a kind of tribalism, actually. Most people just try to fit into one Tribe.
  3. The adults school children interact with are "authority figures" only. You are taught to fear the adults.
