Talking about D&D... Links: http://www.basicfantasy.org/ And of course a link to the MYFAROG website as well: http://myfarog.org/ PS. I show an image of D&D in this video, that I claim is the 1983 edition, but it is of course the 1981 edition. Sorry a...

I've talked about the One Ring Roleplaying Game, I've talked about Middle Earth Roleplaying, I have talked a lot about Mythic Fantasy Roleplaying, so let's talk a little bit about Dungeons and Dragons.

Dungeons and Dragons was based on an idea invented by the Prussian military. They wanted a system to train their officers, so they invented Wargaming. They used miniatures and used a table to simulate the battlefield and to add a random factor, they used dice. This concept was developed by the designers of Dungeons and Dragons[1]and mixed with the fantasy concept of Tolkien. Thus came the first fantasy roleplaying game in the 1970s.

The first incarnation of D&D looked something like this.
The first incarnation of D&D looked something like this.

The latest incarnation of Dungeons and Dragons, 5th edition, has incorporated a lot of ideas from other games. You have background options and now you have an advantage or disadvantage when you cast a die and so forth. It's very simplified and it's rather different from the original Dungeons and Dragons.

Rather than talk about Dungeons and Dragons 5th edition, I'm going to talk about the Dungeons and Dragons game that I think is the best. And that is this Dungeons and Dragons game. Basic Fantasy Roleplaying. Why do I think it's best? It has taken all the good things from Dungeons and Dragons, removed some of the bad things and the sum of it is rather good. This is Dungeons and Dragons. This is all you need to play Dungeons and Dragons. It has the Player's Handbook, the Dungeon Master's Guide and the Monster Manual, all in one. And it's not very thick. You have everything you need here to play Dungeons and Dragons. And the best thing is, this game costs 5 US dollars from Amazon. And if you think that is too expensive, you can actually download a PDF version of this game for free and print it out if you... probably should. And in addition to that you have different adventure modules and campaign settings and so forth, or campaigns, that also is available for free from the Basic Fantasy website. And if you wish to add some rules to make the game a little bit more complex, you can download free PDFs from the same website enabling you to do that. If there is something you don't like about a game, you can just tweak it yourself, homebrew some rules you like and play the game as you want to.

Basic Fantasy Roleplaying game has all the good things from Dungeons and Dragons. If you like Dungeons and Dragons, I recommend highly that you buy this version of the game. You get everything you need in this (?) Rulebook and if you want to include something else, you can do that for this game. You can just add it to the game yourself. You don't have to buy 3 expensive published by Hasbro to play Dungeons and Dragons. You can just buy this game. You can actually buy 20 copies of "Basic Fantasy Role-playing Game" for the price of 1 copy of D&D 5th edition. And it's basically the same game. Personally, I buy everything that is published for the One Ring Roleplaying game. I would have bought everything that should have been published for Middle-earth Roleplaying. And I buy everything that is published for this game. To get a free PDF version of the game, and all the optional rules, character sheets adventures, campaigns, more monsters, new classes, new races, etc, etc, etc go to: www.basicfantasy.org If you like what you find there, I highly recommend you buy the printed version of the game, easily available from Amazon.
