A Disgrace to One's Kin
In the 10th century, the Alþing on Iceland declared that Christian Norsemen were FRÆNDASKOMM ("a disgrace to one's kin"). To convert to Christianity, since it would have meant to abandon the traditions of one's own kin, was called ÆTTARSPILLAR ("destruction of kinship"). They were right...
